Two Leaders of Sinaloa Cartel Detained in El Paso

Two alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel were detained at a private airport near the border with Mexico, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland. At that time, no authority mentioned the involvement of the Government of Mexico in the operation. Subsequently, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador clarified that Mexico was not involved in the detention of the cartel leaders. The United States revealed that they were unaware of what happened in Mexico and only detained the two leaders, while details such as the pilot of the aircraft and how it entered the border with the U.S. are still unknown.

Alejandro Gertz Manero, head of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), made an appearance at the morning press briefing hosted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to address the kidnapping of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada García by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera. Gertz Manero mentioned that investigations into the kidnapping and related homicides are progressing with certainty, emphasizing that the crime was committed in Mexico and that they have sufficient evidence in this regard.

The attorney questioned the lack of information from the United States, highlighting that international legal assistance has been requested and that despite certain responses, they continue to withhold crucial details. Amid the investigations, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada García, a veteran leader of the Sinaloa cartel, was arrested in El Paso, Texas, on July 25 of this year.
